Why this decision matters
Comparing hardware prices alone can hide different labour, compatibility and recurring-service assumptions.
Work through the actual task
- Compare the panel, keypad, detectors and communicator as separate items.
- Check whether remotes, contacts, subscriptions and monitoring are included.
- Ask for missing items in writing and keep the accepted scope with your receipt.
Questions and evidence to request
| Question | Useful evidence in the scope |
|---|---|
| Which door is normally used to arrive and reach the keypad? | An agreed entry route, keypad position and practical delay routine. |
| Which rooms remain occupied when the system is armed? | A zone schedule describing the proposed occupied/night arming mode. |
| Where do pets move, including furniture they can climb on? | A detector placement/selection plan based on the stated pet conditions. |
| Who receives alerts and can act on them? | A named reporting destination and the action expected from the recipient. |
| Does the proposal include the required communicator and ongoing service? | The communicator model, setup, included functions and any recurring service costs. |
Worked example
One Bosch quote includes app communication while another is panel-only. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.
The useful evidence at the end of this example is: An equipment schedule distinguishing the local alarm from each remote feature.
Limits and follow-up
A siren, an app alert and professional monitoring are separate features. Confirm who receives a signal and what they are expected to do.
If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
