SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Home alarms: planning around renovations

Review detector positions against new walls, doors, air conditioning and pet routes. A room layout change can alter coverage. Agree cable changes before plastering and have the revised zones tested afterwards.

Why this decision matters

Testing before the final layout, lighting or network changes may miss a problem introduced by the completed work.

Work through the actual task

  1. Review sensor sight lines, air movement and new arrival routes.
  2. Have affected zones repositioned or reprogrammed and tested after the work.
  3. Photograph agreed cable positions before walls close and keep the images with the handover documents.

Worked example

A renovation moves an internal door and adds air conditioning. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A revised zone plan and an updated entry/exit procedure.

Limits and follow-up

A siren, an app alert and professional monitoring are separate features. Confirm who receives a signal and what they are expected to do.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
