CCTV systems: maintenance and follow-up checks

Check recent playback, camera aim, lens cleanliness and the date on the recorder. Seasonal foliage, spider webs and changed lighting can impair useful images even when the live screen appears normal.

Why this decision matters

A powered-on indicator does not prove that the detection, recording, release or reporting outcome still works.

Work through the actual task

  1. Compare camera aim, lens cleanliness and playback with the commissioning view.
  2. Arrange safe cleaning or repositioning when the target area is obstructed.
  3. Assign each follow-up to a person and book qualified service for internal electrical work.

Worked example

A garden view becomes less useful as foliage grows. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: Dated screenshots of the target view and a record of corrective work.

Limits and follow-up

A recorder is not a backup. Export important clips promptly and check that the exported file plays on a separate device.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
