Business security: account ownership and recovery

Keep recovery email and administrator ownership under the business’s control. Review third-party service access and apply individual accounts where supported by the equipment.

Why this decision matters

Shared owner access makes individual revocation and future account recovery harder to manage.

Work through the actual task

  1. Identify the owner of each security platform account.
  2. Use supported transfer to a business-controlled recovery method.
  3. Test the supported account recovery procedure and store recovery information securely.

Worked example

The main recovery account belongs to a contractor. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A business-owned administration/recovery record with service access documented.

Limits and follow-up

Agree a service scope in writing. Hardware supply, cabling, networking, monitoring and response attendance may be priced separately.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
