SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Business security: upfront and ongoing costs

Budget for subscriptions, service visits, added users or cameras and response attendance where relevant. Ask how charges change if the business adds a second site or more devices.

Why this decision matters

A low initial price can be misleading when a required feature depends on an unlisted recurring service.

Work through the actual task

  1. Ask about extra licences, users, recording capacity and support.
  2. Separate present inclusions from future expansion assumptions.
  3. Request an itemised first-year and recurring cost summary with renewal conditions.

Costs to separate for this system

Compare the whole installation: security equipment, door hardware, cabling, networking, configuration, training and any out-of-hours labour. Monitoring, response attendance and platform services can be separate recurring or variable charges. Ask for responsibility boundaries where the security installer and the business IT provider both have work to do.

Worked example

The business may add a second site next year. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A recurring and expansion cost schedule tied to the proposed platform.

Limits and follow-up

Agree a service scope in writing. Hardware supply, cabling, networking, monitoring and response attendance may be priced separately.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
