Business security: power and backup checks

Identify the functions the business needs during an outage and their power dependencies. An alarm panel backup does not necessarily support cameras, network equipment and access locks.

Why this decision matters

Backup for one component does not prove the complete required function remains available.

Work through the actual task

  1. Identify each essential function and its complete power path.
  2. Have qualified designers explain the relevant backup/release arrangements.
  3. Ask the installer to explain the documented backup design and safe test procedure for your equipment.

Worked example

An outage affects the panel, camera switch and entrance lock differently. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A function-by-function outage plan for the business.

Limits and follow-up

Agree a service scope in writing. Hardware supply, cabling, networking, monitoring and response attendance may be priced separately.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
