Why this decision matters
Equipment age alone does not explain the fault, the benefit of replacement or the limits retained after repair.
Work through the actual task
- Compare diagnosed repairs with specific upgrade benefits and migration downtime.
- Ask which retained limitations remain under each option.
- Compare total scope and ongoing costs rather than a panel or recorder price alone.
Worked example
Repeated faults are causing unplanned business interruptions. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.
The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A decision record that includes operational impact as well as hardware price.
Limits and follow-up
Agree a service scope in writing. Hardware supply, cabling, networking, monitoring and response attendance may be priced separately.
If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
