Video intercoms: how to describe a fault

Say whether calls fail to ring, audio is one-way, video is missing or the release fails. Mention whether the problem affects an indoor monitor, a phone or every answering point.

Why this decision matters

Guessing a cause or repeatedly clearing the indication can remove information useful for diagnosis.

Work through the actual task

  1. Report separately that the call/video path works and release fails.
  2. Give the gate/interface details and recent power or controller changes.
  3. Provide the model and a safe photo of the fault display. Keep passwords and access codes out of the message.

Include these facts in the report

  • Exact equipment model and the real location affected.
  • The visible message, when it started and whether the fault is intermittent.
  • Functions that still work and any recent power, network, account or building change.
  • The person authorised to arrange access and approve diagnosis.

Worked example

Video appears but a gate does not open from the monitor. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A fault report identifying the failed function rather than condemning the whole intercom.

Limits and follow-up

An intercom relay does not power every lock. Ask the installer to confirm the lock supply, release method and safe exit arrangement.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
