Security maintenance: acceptance testing and sign-off

Test the complete relevant path: detection, signal, action or recording, and review. Record failures specifically and retest affected functions after corrective work rather than marking the whole system complete.

Why this decision matters

Signing off only that devices are powered leaves the practical outcome and unresolved defects unverified.

Work through the actual task

  1. Retest the affected complete path, including reporting or playback.
  2. Confirm each open fault's status with the responsible person.
  3. Keep a signed test record with any outstanding items and the date for follow-up.

The outcome to verify

  • Review the dated test results, changed parts and remaining issues. Retest affected outcomes after repairs, update the equipment/configuration record and confirm any provider test status has ended. Keep secret credentials outside the shared maintenance log.

Worked example

Corrective maintenance is finished after one failed check. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A specific retest result and clear ownership of anything still unresolved.

Limits and follow-up

Arrange tests with the monitoring provider first where applicable. Do not trigger a response service without following the agreed test process.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
