Security maintenance: what to cover in a site survey

Inspect the installed equipment against the system record and identify inaccessible devices. Check whether foliage, lighting, furniture or door hardware has changed since commissioning.

Why this decision matters

A photograph of one device cannot establish all relevant cable, power, lighting and operating conditions.

Work through the actual task

  1. Survey the equipment and changes in surroundings.
  2. Identify inaccessible components and unrecorded additions.
  3. Ask for the proposed positions and any unresolved assumptions to be marked on a simple plan.

Worked example

The system record no longer matches the installed devices. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A corrected inventory and a list of checks still requiring access.

Limits and follow-up

Arrange tests with the monitoring provider first where applicable. Do not trigger a response service without following the agreed test process.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
