SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Alarm monitoring: usability and accessibility checks

Ask how an authorised person with hearing or communication needs can receive and acknowledge contacts. Agree a supported method with the provider rather than assuming a voice call will always work.

Why this decision matters

A feature list cannot show whether the intended person can reach, read, hear or complete the actual control task.

Work through the actual task

  1. Discuss supported accessible notification/acknowledgement methods with the provider.
  2. Test the agreed method as part of account handover.
  3. Have the intended users try the proposed control method before committing to a final position.

Worked example

An authorised contact cannot reliably use voice calls. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A contact plan describing the usable channel and fallback contact.

Limits and follow-up

Ask which communications paths and backup power are included. Internet, mobile coverage and subscription dependencies should be clear before activation.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
