SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Alarm monitoring: maintenance and follow-up checks

Review contacts and response instructions periodically. Arrange authorised signal tests with the provider and keep the outcome. A changed phone number can undermine an otherwise functioning alarm path.

Why this decision matters

A powered-on indicator does not prove that the detection, recording, release or reporting outcome still works.

Work through the actual task

  1. Review phone numbers, authority and availability with the provider.
  2. Arrange authorised signal tests and update escalation instructions.
  3. Assign each follow-up to a person and book qualified service for internal electrical work.

Worked example

The current contact list includes people who no longer answer after hours. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A dated response-plan review and a provider-confirmed test record.

Limits and follow-up

Ask which communications paths and backup power are included. Internet, mobile coverage and subscription dependencies should be clear before activation.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
