Why this decision matters
Comparing hardware prices alone can hide different labour, compatibility and recurring-service assumptions.
Work through the actual task
- Compare communicator, paths, fees and event coverage separately.
- Clarify setup, attendance, cancellation and equipment ownership terms.
- Ask for missing items in writing and keep the accepted scope with your receipt.
Questions and evidence to request
| Question | Useful evidence in the scope |
|---|---|
| Which alarm and fault events should be reported? | A list of included event types and their agreed response instructions. |
| Which communicator and current network services are supported? | The supported communicator/network paths and the provider’s compatibility confirmation. |
| What happens if the primary contact cannot be reached? | A contact order and the instructions applied when contacts cannot be reached. |
| Who can request test status or change the instructions? | The provider-authorised account contacts and supported test/change procedure. |
| Which attendance or response charges are outside the recurring fee? | A fee schedule identifying setup, recurring service, cancellation and attendance charges. |
Worked example
One quote includes signal monitoring while another includes patrol attendance. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.
The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A written comparison of monitoring versus physical response services.
Limits and follow-up
Ask which communications paths and backup power are included. Internet, mobile coverage and subscription dependencies should be clear before activation.
If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
