SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Alarm monitoring: planning around renovations

Notify the monitoring provider before planned work affects detectors, power or communications. Agree temporary instructions and an end-of-work test so the account does not remain in test mode by mistake.

Why this decision matters

Testing before the final layout, lighting or network changes may miss a problem introduced by the completed work.

Work through the actual task

  1. Agree test status and temporary instructions with the monitoring provider.
  2. Record start/end times and perform the agreed restoration test.
  3. Photograph agreed cable positions before walls close and keep the images with the handover documents.

Worked example

Building work may trigger sensors or interrupt communication. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: Provider confirmation that normal response has resumed.

Limits and follow-up

Ask which communications paths and backup power are included. Internet, mobile coverage and subscription dependencies should be clear before activation.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
