Remote security access: acceptance testing and sign-off

Test the agreed functions on every intended user role using Wi-Fi and mobile data. Confirm notifications, permissions and recovery ownership rather than stopping after the installer’s own phone connects.

Why this decision matters

Signing off only that devices are powered leaves the practical outcome and unresolved defects unverified.

Work through the actual task

  1. Test each intended role on Wi-Fi and mobile data.
  2. Confirm notifications and customer-controlled recovery with the actual users.
  3. Keep a signed test record with any outstanding items and the date for follow-up.

The outcome to verify

  • Test the actual users, relevant roles, remote viewing and intended notifications. Demonstrate access revocation and establish a customer-controlled recovery route. Record the app/device details without putting passwords or recovery codes in a general service document.

Worked example

The installer can view cameras but staff permissions have not been tested. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A role-based remote access result rather than one successful installer login.

Limits and follow-up

Avoid exposing recorder ports directly to the internet. Discuss supported secure access options and keep the device software maintained.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
