Strata security: handover and user training

Provide the building’s authorised manager with equipment records and administration instructions. Explain resident access changes and the process for support without exposing master credentials to all residents.

Why this decision matters

A successful installer demonstration is not enough if the intended user cannot repeat the everyday task.

Work through the actual task

  1. Demonstrate authorised issue/revocation and support procedures.
  2. Transfer the current equipment and account records to the responsible entity.
  3. Perform the everyday tasks yourself and note any step that needs a written instruction.

Worked example

A new building manager needs to administer resident credentials. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A management handover pack with credentials kept securely separate.

Limits and follow-up

Do not assume a resident can authorise changes to common property. Confirm the approval process and the person authorised to accept the work.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
