Why this decision matters
Comparing hardware prices alone can hide different labour, compatibility and recurring-service assumptions.
Work through the actual task
- Request new and retained model schedules and migration work.
- Itemise account setup, programming, training and removal responsibilities.
- Ask for missing items in writing and keep the accepted scope with your receipt.
Questions and evidence to request
| Question | Useful evidence in the scope |
|---|---|
| Which specific outcome will be better after the upgrade? | A specific improvement that can be checked against the existing limitation. |
| Which exact models and cables are proposed to remain? | A supported retained/new model schedule with cable and interface assumptions. |
| What security functions are interrupted during the work? | A migration sequence and a plan for functions affected by downtime. |
| Will subscriptions, apps or user permissions change? | A before/after account, permission, platform and recurring-cost comparison. |
| How will retained functions be tested after migration? | A commissioning plan covering both new capabilities and affected retained functions. |
Worked example
A quote says upgrade existing system without listing retained components. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.
The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A complete before/after scope with exclusions visible.
Limits and follow-up
A new panel or recorder may change app access and ongoing costs. Include user migration, account ownership and demonstrations in the quotation.
If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
