Wireless alarms: checking existing equipment

Confirm the exact radio protocol and product family for every retained sensor. A wireless logo or common brand is not enough to establish compatibility between generations.

Why this decision matters

Matching brands or connectors do not establish compatibility of the full retained device and its functions.

Work through the actual task

  1. Check the full product range and region/model suffix.
  2. Obtain compatibility confirmation for the installed panel/firmware.
  3. Get a written retained-equipment list and clarify responsibility for pre-existing faults.

Build a retained-equipment record

  • Full model and variant, the device location and its job in the current system.
  • Connection, power and interface information available from the installed documentation.
  • Known faults and the particular function the device must retain after the change.
  • Written confirmation of supported compatibility and any remaining limitations.

Worked example

An extra sensor from the same brand uses a different radio family. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A supported addition list before buying new devices.

Limits and follow-up

Do not assume wireless devices from different ranges work together. Obtain a written compatible device list for the specific panel and firmware.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
