SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Wireless alarms: internet dependencies and outages

The radio link from a detector to its panel is different from the internet path used by an app. Confirm which functions stay local and which alerts rely on broadband or mobile connectivity.

Why this decision matters

Loss of a remote feature should not be confused with proof that every local function has failed.

Work through the actual task

  1. Separate the sensor-to-panel link from the internet reporting path.
  2. Use supported status checks and report the affected function.
  3. Write down the expected behaviour during a connection loss and the way the system reports it.

Worked example

An app is offline while the radio sensors may still communicate locally. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A dependency note showing which connection actually failed.

Limits and follow-up

Do not assume wireless devices from different ranges work together. Obtain a written compatible device list for the specific panel and firmware.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
