SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Wireless alarms: maintenance and follow-up checks

Review device supervision and battery warnings under the manufacturer’s instructions. Record the replacement date and approved battery type. Do not mix unsuitable cells or disable a warning indefinitely.

Why this decision matters

A powered-on indicator does not prove that the detection, recording, release or reporting outcome still works.

Work through the actual task

  1. Check the exact manufacturer-approved battery requirement.
  2. Arrange correct replacement and an authorised device-status check.
  3. Assign each follow-up to a person and book qualified service for internal electrical work.

Worked example

A device repeatedly reports low battery after unsuitable cells were fitted. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: Battery type/date and confirmation that the relevant warning has cleared.

Limits and follow-up

Do not assume wireless devices from different ranges work together. Obtain a written compatible device list for the specific panel and firmware.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
