SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Wireless alarms: upfront and ongoing costs

Include periodic battery replacement, suitable replacement cells and optional repeaters or communications services. A cable-light installation still requires planned maintenance and supported devices.

Why this decision matters

A low initial price can be misleading when a required feature depends on an unlisted recurring service.

Work through the actual task

  1. Identify the approved battery types and expected service approach.
  2. Ask who notices warnings and arranges replacement.
  3. Request an itemised first-year and recurring cost summary with renewal conditions.

Costs to separate for this system

Compare included devices, communicator and service features as well as installation labour. A reduced cable requirement does not eliminate battery replacement or future service access. Repeaters, additional detectors or a communications module can alter the price. Ask for an approved compatible-device schedule and an ongoing maintenance plan.

Worked example

The installation saves cable labour but adds battery maintenance. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: An ownership cost plan including consumables and service access.

Limits and follow-up

Do not assume wireless devices from different ranges work together. Obtain a written compatible device list for the specific panel and firmware.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
