SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Wireless alarms: planning requirements and priorities

List sensor positions and the building materials between them and the panel. Include detached areas and metal structures. Decide where batteries can be accessed safely for future replacement.

Why this decision matters

Choosing the device count before defining the target task can leave important requirements outside the design.

Work through the actual task

  1. Mark final sensor positions and intervening building materials.
  2. Ask for supported coverage checks before promising the area can be protected.
  3. List your three priorities and ask the installer to show how the proposed design meets each one.

Worked example

A detached area is beyond the proposed panel's obvious radio path. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A device plan identifying any supported repeater or coverage constraint.

Limits and follow-up

Do not assume wireless devices from different ranges work together. Obtain a written compatible device list for the specific panel and firmware.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
