SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Wireless alarms: repair or replacement decisions

An isolated sensor fault may need one replacement, while a capacity or coverage limit may require a broader change. Ask for signal evidence and supported options before replacing the hub.

Why this decision matters

Equipment age alone does not explain the fault, the benefit of replacement or the limits retained after repair.

Work through the actual task

  1. Ask whether the issue is one device, range, capacity or compatibility.
  2. Compare supported targeted options against an identified limitation.
  3. Compare total scope and ongoing costs rather than a panel or recorder price alone.

Worked example

A device fault is used to justify replacing the whole radio system. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: Signal/diagnostic evidence and a clearly scoped repair or upgrade.

Limits and follow-up

Do not assume wireless devices from different ranges work together. Obtain a written compatible device list for the specific panel and firmware.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
