SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Access control: internet dependencies and outages

Some controllers make access decisions locally; others rely on a connected service for parts of their operation. Ask what happens to credentials, schedules and event synchronisation during an outage.

Why this decision matters

Loss of a remote feature should not be confused with proof that every local function has failed.

Work through the actual task

  1. Identify decisions made locally by the controller versus online administration.
  2. Ask what happens to schedules, new credentials and event synchronisation.
  3. Write down the expected behaviour during a connection loss and the way the system reports it.

Worked example

An office loses the connection to its hosted access platform. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A documented offline operation and reconnection procedure.

Limits and follow-up

Door security must preserve safe exit. Have the appropriate qualified professionals confirm the door and emergency release design.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
