SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Access control: planning around renovations

Coordinate the door hardware, cable paths and finished frames before work begins. Door replacement can change alignment, lock mounting and exit hardware, so include those items in the programme.

Why this decision matters

Testing before the final layout, lighting or network changes may miss a problem introduced by the completed work.

Work through the actual task

  1. Coordinate lock mounting, closers, cable paths and final door hardware.
  2. Retest release and closure after the completed door work.
  3. Photograph agreed cable positions before walls close and keep the images with the handover documents.

Worked example

A fitout replaces both door frames and access readers. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A revised door schedule and a complete post-fitout acceptance result.

Limits and follow-up

Door security must preserve safe exit. Have the appropriate qualified professionals confirm the door and emergency release design.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
