SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Access control: rental-property permissions and handover

Agree who owns the credentials and who authorises a new user. If a tenancy shares an entry with other occupiers, obtain common-property approval before changing the reader or controller.

Why this decision matters

Permission to occupy a property is different from authority to alter shared equipment or transfer its accounts.

Work through the actual task

  1. Identify the building's authorised decision maker and equipment ownership.
  2. Agree user approval and credential transfer arrangements with the relevant parties.
  3. Keep written approval and agree how user access will transfer when occupancy changes.

Worked example

A tenant wants access changes on a shared foyer door. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: Written authority and a process for changes at tenancy end.

Limits and follow-up

Door security must preserve safe exit. Have the appropriate qualified professionals confirm the door and emergency release design.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
