SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Home alarms: acceptance testing and sign-off

Test each zone and the agreed siren or notification path under the installer’s procedure. Demonstrate entry and exit delays with normal use. If monitored, confirm receipt with the provider before ending test mode.

Why this decision matters

Signing off only that devices are powered leaves the practical outcome and unresolved defects unverified.

Work through the actual task

  1. Use the installer/provider's authorised test process for each agreed zone.
  2. Verify the relevant siren, app or monitoring receipt and restore normal operating status.
  3. Keep a signed test record with any outstanding items and the date for follow-up.

The outcome to verify

  • Practise full arming, any agreed part-arm mode, disarming and adding/removing an authorised user. Check the intended siren or reporting path through the approved test process. Keep the zone list, equipment models and fault instructions; store secret codes separately.

Worked example

The new alarm has never been tested through its reporting path. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A commissioning record listing tested zones and confirmed notification destinations.

Limits and follow-up

A siren, an app alert and professional monitoring are separate features. Confirm who receives a signal and what they are expected to do.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
