SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Home alarms: usability and accessibility checks

Try the keypad display, button size, confirmation sounds and entry time with the intended users. Ask which remotes or supported interfaces can simplify normal use without handing out administrator access.

Why this decision matters

A feature list cannot show whether the intended person can reach, read, hear or complete the actual control task.

Work through the actual task

  1. Try the normal arrival route at a comfortable pace.
  2. Discuss suitable controls, visibility and timing without weakening the agreed protection.
  3. Have the intended users try the proposed control method before committing to a final position.

Worked example

An older user needs more time to reach the keypad. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A demonstrated routine that the intended user can complete reliably.

Limits and follow-up

A siren, an app alert and professional monitoring are separate features. Confirm who receives a signal and what they are expected to do.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
