SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Home alarms: planning requirements and priorities

List the doors used for arriving and leaving, rooms occupied at night and where pets stay. Decide whether you need a night mode that secures the perimeter while people move inside.

Why this decision matters

Choosing the device count before defining the target task can leave important requirements outside the design.

Work through the actual task

  1. Identify the sleeping areas, normal entry and rooms occupied after arming.
  2. Ask which zones belong in the proposed part-arm mode and how entry delays behave.
  3. List your three priorities and ask the installer to show how the proposed design meets each one.

Worked example

A family wants the perimeter armed while someone moves inside at night. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A zone plan with the intended full-arm and night-use routines.

Limits and follow-up

A siren, an app alert and professional monitoring are separate features. Confirm who receives a signal and what they are expected to do.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
