CCTV systems: account ownership and recovery

Change factory credentials and keep recorder administration separate from ordinary viewing. Discuss a supported remote-access method rather than opening ports without understanding the exposure.

Why this decision matters

Shared owner access makes individual revocation and future account recovery harder to manage.

Work through the actual task

  1. Check whether individual viewing accounts and stronger sign-in controls are supported.
  2. Replace shared everyday administration with appropriate separate roles.
  3. Test the supported account recovery procedure and store recovery information securely.

Worked example

Several people share the recorder administrator password. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A role list and securely retained recovery method, without passwords in the service log.

Limits and follow-up

A recorder is not a backup. Export important clips promptly and check that the exported file plays on a separate device.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
