SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

CCTV systems: equipment records and documentation

Keep a labelled camera plan, recorder model, drive capacity and recording settings. Store a sample export procedure with the instructions, but keep administrator credentials in a separate secure place.

Why this decision matters

A list of brand names without locations, models or responsibilities is often insufficient for later service.

Work through the actual task

  1. Match channel names to real positions and note lens/model details.
  2. Record storage settings, clock configuration and the supported export procedure.
  3. Nominate the person who updates the record whenever equipment or permissions change.

Worked example

A future service technician will need to identify every camera. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A current device schedule and system diagram kept apart from credentials.

Limits and follow-up

A recorder is not a backup. Export important clips promptly and check that the exported file plays on a separate device.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
