CCTV systems: preparing for the work

Decide where the recorder can be kept securely with ventilation and power. Make the proposed cable routes accessible. Have the account owner available for the remote-viewing setup without giving an installer an email password.

Why this decision matters

Unresolved access or decision authority can delay work or leave a change awaiting approval.

Work through the actual task

  1. Check ventilation, secure access, power and the route for camera cables.
  2. Clear the work positions and arrange the account owner's availability for setup.
  3. Confirm access times, parking arrangements and any restrictions on noisy work before the visit.

Worked example

The recorder is planned for a cupboard beside the router. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: An agreed recorder position and labelled camera cable endpoints.

Limits and follow-up

A recorder is not a backup. Export important clips promptly and check that the exported file plays on a separate device.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
