CCTV systems: user permissions and access changes

Create separate viewing users where the recorder supports them. Restrict exports and configuration changes to people who need those functions. Remove old users and shared-device access after staff or household changes.

Why this decision matters

Removing a person from a contact list does not necessarily revoke their device or platform permissions.

Work through the actual task

  1. List recorder users and platform shares separately.
  2. Revoke the person's supported permissions and verify the relevant session is removed.
  3. Review the user list after a staff departure, tenancy change or lost credential.

Worked example

A former employee can still view the cameras on a phone. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A dated user review confirming current viewers and administrators.

Limits and follow-up

A recorder is not a backup. Export important clips promptly and check that the exported file plays on a separate device.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
