Business security: user permissions and access changes

Use roles that match duties rather than sharing a manager login. Remove departed staff and expired contractor access promptly, including remote apps and monitoring contact lists.

Why this decision matters

Removing a person from a contact list does not necessarily revoke their device or platform permissions.

Work through the actual task

  1. Define the minimum function each role needs.
  2. Use supported separate users and remove departing staff promptly.
  3. Review the user list after a staff departure, tenancy change or lost credential.

Worked example

Staff share a manager login to view all cameras. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: An access matrix covering recorder, alarm, apps and monitoring contacts.

Limits and follow-up

Agree a service scope in writing. Hardware supply, cabling, networking, monitoring and response attendance may be priced separately.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
