Video intercoms: usability and accessibility checks

Check button reach, screen visibility and audibility from the actual approach. Try the proposed answering method with the people who use it. Discuss additional supported visual or audible indicators if needed.

Why this decision matters

A feature list cannot show whether the intended person can reach, read, hear or complete the actual control task.

Work through the actual task

  1. Try reach, audio and visible call status at the proposed entrance.
  2. Discuss supported indicators and answering options with the intended users.
  3. Have the intended users try the proposed control method before committing to a final position.

Worked example

A visitor may not hear confirmation from the outdoor station. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A demonstrated call workflow and any required alternative communication method.

Limits and follow-up

An intercom relay does not power every lock. Ask the installer to confirm the lock supply, release method and safe exit arrangement.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
