Why this decision matters
Comparing hardware prices alone can hide different labour, compatibility and recurring-service assumptions.
Work through the actual task
- Compare door station, monitors, power supplies and network equipment.
- Itemise strike/lock work, trenching and gate-controller connection separately.
- Ask for missing items in writing and keep the accepted scope with your receipt.
Questions and evidence to request
| Question | Useful evidence in the scope |
|---|---|
| Where will a visitor stand and how will backlight affect their face? | A station position that provides reachable controls and a useful visitor view. |
| Which screens or phones should ring, and in what order? | A call-routing schedule listing every intended screen and phone. |
| Does the existing wiring use a proprietary bus or an IP network? | A supported compatibility/topology design for any retained wiring and stations. |
| Which exact door or gate needs release control? | A quoted door/gate release interface with supply and work responsibilities identified. |
| Who owns the account and removes old answering devices? | A customer/management-controlled owner account and a supported user-removal process. |
Worked example
Two intercom packages differ in screens and gate-interface work. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.
The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A quote comparison showing all answering points and release inclusions.
Limits and follow-up
An intercom relay does not power every lock. Ask the installer to confirm the lock supply, release method and safe exit arrangement.
If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
