Video intercoms: planning around renovations

Confirm finished floor and gate heights before mounting a door station. Plan monitor cable exits before walls are closed. Coordinate any lock or gate interface with the appropriate trades.

Why this decision matters

Testing before the final layout, lighting or network changes may miss a problem introduced by the completed work.

Work through the actual task

  1. Review station height, approach angle and final external lighting.
  2. Coordinate revised cable exit and any lock interface with the relevant trades.
  3. Photograph agreed cable positions before walls close and keep the images with the handover documents.

Worked example

A new front door moves the visitor's standing position. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A final view/audio test from where a visitor actually stands.

Limits and follow-up

An intercom relay does not power every lock. Ask the installer to confirm the lock supply, release method and safe exit arrangement.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
