Security maintenance: power and backup checks

Include backup power checks in the approved service procedure. Record battery condition and any required replacement. Never test a power failure by opening mains equipment without the appropriate qualification.

Why this decision matters

Backup for one component does not prove the complete required function remains available.

Work through the actual task

  1. Use the manufacturer/provider's approved inspection procedure.
  2. Have appropriate service personnel assess battery condition and backup function.
  3. Ask the installer to explain the documented backup design and safe test procedure for your equipment.

Worked example

Backup batteries have no recorded test or replacement history. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A dated power-backup result and any replacement recommendation.

Limits and follow-up

Arrange tests with the monitoring provider first where applicable. Do not trigger a response service without following the agreed test process.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
