SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Alarm monitoring: what to cover in a site survey

Check communicator compatibility, available network paths, mobile signal at the proposed position and backup power. Review the real contact plan at the same time as the equipment.

Why this decision matters

A photograph of one device cannot establish all relevant cable, power, lighting and operating conditions.

Work through the actual task

  1. Survey communicator compatibility, network paths, signal and backup supply.
  2. Agree the event types and response contacts before activating service.
  3. Ask for the proposed positions and any unresolved assumptions to be marked on a simple plan.

Worked example

The installation position has uncertain mobile coverage. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A site/reporting design whose remaining assumptions are explicit.

Limits and follow-up

Ask which communications paths and backup power are included. Internet, mobile coverage and subscription dependencies should be clear before activation.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
