Remote security access: handover and user training

Test on home Wi-Fi and mobile data, including a notification with the phone locked. Demonstrate adding or removing a shared user and document the supported recovery process.

Why this decision matters

A successful installer demonstration is not enough if the intended user cannot repeat the everyday task.

Work through the actual task

  1. Test authorised access on mobile data and with the phone locked.
  2. Demonstrate shared-user removal and recovery ownership.
  3. Perform the everyday tasks yourself and note any step that needs a written instruction.

Worked example

The app works on home Wi-Fi but has never been tried away from home. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A handover record for viewing, notifications and user changes.

Limits and follow-up

Avoid exposing recorder ports directly to the internet. Discuss supported secure access options and keep the device software maintained.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
