Remote security access: rental-property permissions and handover

Agree who owns the security account and who receives alerts during a tenancy. Transfer or revoke access through the supported process when the occupancy changes; avoid leaving a former tenant as owner.

Why this decision matters

Permission to occupy a property is different from authority to alter shared equipment or transfer its accounts.

Work through the actual task

  1. Agree account ownership and who receives notifications.
  2. Document supported transfer/revocation at tenancy end.
  3. Keep written approval and agree how user access will transfer when occupancy changes.

Worked example

A tenant controls the camera app but the recorder belongs to the property. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: An occupancy handover process for both physical equipment and remote access.

Limits and follow-up

Avoid exposing recorder ports directly to the internet. Discuss supported secure access options and keep the device software maintained.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
