Security repairs: account ownership and recovery

Do not send a technician the password for an unrelated email or personal account. Use the product’s supported access process and keep ownership and recovery details with the customer.

Why this decision matters

Shared owner access makes individual revocation and future account recovery harder to manage.

Work through the actual task

  1. Keep account ownership with the customer.
  2. Use the product's supported administrator/recovery process rather than sharing unrelated credentials.
  3. Test the supported account recovery procedure and store recovery information securely.

Worked example

A repair request asks for an unrelated email password. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A customer-controlled recovery route and documented service access scope.

Limits and follow-up

Do not open mains powered equipment or defeat tamper switches. Arrange a qualified service visit when a fault needs internal inspection.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
