SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Security repairs: equipment records and documentation

Keep the dated service report, fault description, diagnosis and changed-part list. If the technician could not reproduce the issue, record that explicitly and note the agreed evidence to collect next time.

Why this decision matters

A list of brand names without locations, models or responsibilities is often insufficient for later service.

Work through the actual task

  1. Record that no reproducible fault was found rather than marking the cause resolved.
  2. Agree what evidence to collect if it recurs.
  3. Nominate the person who updates the record whenever equipment or permissions change.

Worked example

A technician could not reproduce an intermittent problem. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A service note distinguishing observed facts from unconfirmed explanations.

Limits and follow-up

Do not open mains powered equipment or defeat tamper switches. Arrange a qualified service visit when a fault needs internal inspection.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
