Why this decision matters
Permission to occupy a property is different from authority to alter shared equipment or transfer its accounts.
Work through the actual task
- Identify the person who can approve the callout and any extra parts.
- Arrange contact/access before the visit.
- Keep written approval and agree how user access will transfer when occupancy changes.
Worked example
A tenant reports a fault but cannot authorise a replacement. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.
The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A clear decision path so diagnosis does not lead to unapproved replacement work.
Limits and follow-up
Do not open mains powered equipment or defeat tamper switches. Arrange a qualified service visit when a fault needs internal inspection.
If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
