Strata security: planning requirements and priorities

Start with a common-area entry list and a clear approval process. Define how residents, visitors, cleaners and service contractors should gain access without assuming one credential suits everyone.

Why this decision matters

Choosing the device count before defining the target task can leave important requirements outside the design.

Work through the actual task

  1. List common doors and the different access/answering needs.
  2. Agree credential approval and visitor-routing responsibilities.
  3. List your three priorities and ask the installer to show how the proposed design meets each one.

Worked example

A shared entry serves residents, cleaners and delivery visitors. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: An authorised common-entry brief with separate resident and contractor roles.

Limits and follow-up

Do not assume a resident can authorise changes to common property. Confirm the approval process and the person authorised to accept the work.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
