Strata security: power and backup checks

Have the designer explain the intended behaviour of common doors, intercoms and network equipment during an outage. Shared access and safe exit requirements need to be considered together.

Why this decision matters

Backup for one component does not prove the complete required function remains available.

Work through the actual task

  1. Ask for the complete outage and release design.
  2. Have the appropriate professionals assess safe exit and backup requirements.
  3. Ask the installer to explain the documented backup design and safe test procedure for your equipment.

Worked example

The common door, intercom and network cabinet have separate supplies. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A common-entry power/release record covering each component.

Limits and follow-up

Do not assume a resident can authorise changes to common property. Confirm the approval process and the person authorised to accept the work.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
