Security upgrades: usability and accessibility checks

Have the intended users try the replacement keypad, screen or app. A newer interface can be harder for an existing user even when it offers more features, so include training and placement decisions.

Why this decision matters

A feature list cannot show whether the intended person can reach, read, hear or complete the actual control task.

Work through the actual task

  1. Try the proposed control on the intended device or demonstration unit.
  2. Include suitable placement and user training in the scope.
  3. Have the intended users try the proposed control method before committing to a final position.

Worked example

A replacement touchscreen is harder for an existing user to operate. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A demonstrated accessible everyday workflow before final acceptance.

Limits and follow-up

A new panel or recorder may change app access and ongoing costs. Include user migration, account ownership and demonstrations in the quotation.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
