SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Security upgrades: repair or replacement decisions

Price the diagnosed repair and the proposed upgrade separately. Compare the functions and support gained, retained constraints and downtime before deciding whether a whole system change is worthwhile.

Why this decision matters

Equipment age alone does not explain the fault, the benefit of replacement or the limits retained after repair.

Work through the actual task

  1. Compare diagnosed repair with the specific capability gained by upgrade.
  2. Include recurring costs, retained constraints and planned downtime.
  3. Compare total scope and ongoing costs rather than a panel or recorder price alone.

Worked example

A repair quote is presented beside a replacement without explaining differences. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A decision based on scope and useful improvement rather than hardware age alone.

Limits and follow-up

A new panel or recorder may change app access and ongoing costs. Include user migration, account ownership and demonstrations in the quotation.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
