SYDNEY ALARMS / GUIDE

Wireless alarms: power and backup checks

Battery sensors do not mean the panel, hub and network equipment need no mains power. Ask what happens to the complete system during a power failure and which backup parts are included.

Why this decision matters

Backup for one component does not prove the complete required function remains available.

Work through the actual task

  1. List the panel/hub, communication equipment and their supplies.
  2. Ask what remains working during a mains interruption.
  3. Ask the installer to explain the documented backup design and safe test procedure for your equipment.

Worked example

Battery detectors are mistaken for a system independent of mains power. This is a hypothetical example, not a completed customer installation.

The useful evidence at the end of this example is: A complete backup design rather than an assumption about sensor batteries.

Limits and follow-up

Do not assume wireless devices from different ranges work together. Obtain a written compatible device list for the specific panel and firmware.

If the relevant check cannot be completed, record what remains uncertain and who will resolve it before work or sign-off proceeds.
